NEC Electronics America Announces Power MOSFET Devices With Some of the Thinnest Packages and Lowest On-State Resistances in the Industry

Posted on: Monday, 23 January 2006, 15:00 CST

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NEC Electronics America, Inc. today introduced the latest additions to its line of low-voltage power management devices (PMDs), the uPA2450B and uPA2451B power MOSFETs. Developed using NEC Electronics' advanced packaging technology, these dual N- channel MOSFETs have very low packaging profiles that enable designers to realize a smaller design footprint. With their thin packaging and several power-saving features, the devices are ideal for use in portable battery- powered applications such as MP3 players, mobile wireless devices, lithium-ion battery packs and glucose meters, among others. Both devices are available now.

"Portable digital devices continue to capture the interest of many consumers who also are looking to gain as much battery performance as possible from these devices," said Bart Ladd, general manager, standard solutions strategic business unit, NEC Electronics America. "With one of the industry's lowest on-state resistances and one of the industry's thinnest packages, the new uPA2450B and uPA2451B power MOSFETs offer designers a proven, leading-edge solution that reduces both form factor and power consumption to meet the stringent demands of the consumer electronics market."

The new devices are manufactured in NEC Electronics' CMOS 4 process technology to enable a higher conversion efficiency and smaller cell. With a very low on-state resistance of 12.5 milli-ohms (typical) at a 4.5-volt (V) gate drive, and VDSS from 20 to 30V, the new devices are able to extend battery life for portable applications. Integrated gate-protection diodes provide lower overall system costs and smaller form factor. The new devices also feature excellent switching characteristics that make them ideal for power-switching applications in battery-powered systems. In addition, at 2.1 x 5.1 x 0.8 mm, the new devices feature one of the thinnest packages available in the industry.

Pricing and Availability

Both power MOSFETs are available now in production quantities, at prices starting at $0.25 each in low volumes. Pricing and availability are subject to change.
