AMMAN, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A telecommunications fiber optic cable linking Jordan and Iraq has been completed, Jordanian Communication Minister Fawwaz Zu'bi said in a press release on Wednesday.
The project, which links the telecommunications networks in the two countries, will enhance Iraq's communication channels with not only Jordan, but also other countries in the world, The cable, which extends 400 kms in the Jordanian territories, will also enable the kingdom to act as a transit point for traffic from Iraq, and increase its capacity of data transfer via the link in Aqaba, Jordan's southern port city, Zu'bi said.
The project, including digital communications equipment that uses SDH technology with a 622 MBPS capacity, is carried out through the undersea Fibre Optic Link Around the Globe, the minister said.
