Edison Chouest Land Deal OK'D: Industrial Park Prices Will Rise

Jan. 25--GULFPORT -- The Harrison County Development Commission Tuesday gave the thumbs up to a land deal with Edison Chouest Offshore.

Commissioners approved selling 23 acres in Bernard Bayou Industrial Park for $994,500, and to lease 7.8 acres along the Industrial Seaway for $10,850 per month.

Edison Chouest Offshore has declined to discuss its plans, but development officials have said the company will invest $18 million and have 250 workers.

The transaction now goes before the Harrison County Board of Supervisors.

The Development Commission also voted to approve new appraisals for land in several industrial parks that increase prices from 5 percent to as much as 25 percent.

The price of an acre in Biloxi Commerce Park will increase from $160,000 to $200,000; an acre in the Port Intraplex will go from $55,000 to $57,500; and an acre in Intraplex 10 will rise from $95,000 to $100,000.

In another matter, the HCDC endorsed a resolution calling on the Mississippi Department of Transportation to make the Biloxi-Ocean Springs bridge a drawbridge.

MDOT is moving forward with plans to build a bridge without a draw span and a clearance of 85 feet. Shipbuilders and economic development officials have expressed concern it would limit future waterborne traffic.

The HCDC also met in executive session to discuss legal matters in connection with a ruling by an appeals court affirming the HCDC failed to comply with the state public records law in a case that goes back several years.
