SFR Launches Full Track Mobile Music Subscription Service Powered By Musiwave

Posted on: Thursday, 26 January 2006, 18:00 CST

PARIS, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Musiwave, an Openwave company (Openwave Systems Inc.; Nasdaq: OPWV) and a leading provider of mobile music entertainment services to operators and media companies worldwide, today announced it has been selected by leading French operator SFR to power one of the industry's first subscription-based music download services for full length tracks.

Musiwave has partnered with Secure Digital Container AG (SDC) to deliver a complete Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution to SFR, an affiliate of Vivendi Universal and Vodafone. This advanced solution allows operators to enter the market for full-length music subscription services that has traditionally been the domain of web portals and fixed line service providers.

The solution's simple user interface allows consumers to download as many tracks as they want when subscribed to the service. Designed with flexibility in mind, the service allows users to 'delete and recharge' their mobiles with their favorite tracks from the operator's portal whenever they want, regardless of location. The SFR service currently offers access to 80,000 songs from the UNIVERSAL Music catalogue.

A March 2005 survey conducted by analyst group Jupiter Research identifies the 'flat rate rent-to-own' model as one of the top three digital multimedia music service features requested by consumers.

According to Nicolas Pelletier, Vice President, Musiwave, "The launch of SFR's full-track subscription service is a genuine industry milestone, opening the door for consumers to experience and interact with music in ways that have previously not been possible. Musiwave is dedicated to enabling operators to deliver creative, exciting music packages to their subscribers that will help them drive 3G adoption and mobile data usage, and this deployment with SFR is an important step in the next phase of the development of a thriving global market for mobile music."

Musiwave's industry-leading mobile music platform powers more than 20 live full track music mobile services globally, and has recently been nominated for a 2006 GSM Association Award in the "Best Made for Mobile Music Service" category for its MODS(TM) (Music on Demand Service) music streaming and download platform.
