Time Warner Telecom Delivers Local Internet and Voice Services To Concordia University

Posted on: Wednesday, 1 October 2003, 06:00 CDT

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider of local and regional optical broadband networks and services to businesses in Texas and 21 other states and 44 U.S. markets, today announced the competitive award and installation of a 3-year contract to deliver voice and Internet services to Concordia University in Austin.

Concordia University's Internet capacity increases five-fold with the Time Warner Telecom 15 Mbps partial DS3 deployment. The Internet service supports the campus' 18 facilities from dorm rooms to administration office buildings. The dedicated link positions the school to "pay as it grows," with additional capacity of 30 Mbps available when needed. Moreover, the increase in network capacity enables Concordia to implement streaming media projects, including the broadcast of graduation ceremonies.

In addition, Time Warner Telecom is providing ISDN PRI voice services to enable caller ID for incoming calls. Both services are based on a dual-entry, fiber optic link topology to ensure a level of redundancy no other carrier could economically provide to Concordia.

"The Time Warner Telecom service has dramatically expanded our telecommunications capacity," said David Kluth, vice president of University Services at Concordia. "We are fielding streaming media solutions and looking ahead to distance learning options. By consolidating our voice and data services with one provider, we've been able to substantially increase our capacity at about the same cost."

"We've experienced high reliability of service delivery for both the voice and data communications Time Warner Telecom is delivering. Their customer support has been exceptional every step of the way. And we especially appreciated their team of associates and technicians who worked with our IT staff to design a package tailored to meet our needs," Kluth added.

"In addition to helping Concordia meet its Internet access and voice needs for employees and students, we are able to offer higher availability and redundancy of network services through dual entry fiber connections," said Jenny Rogers, general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Austin. "One of the reasons the University selected our services is because we were the only provider able to economically meet their redundancy and reliability requirements with a fiber-based solution."
