Time Warner Telecom Powers Up Avista Labs Communications With Integrated Voice and Data Solution

SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions to business customers in Spokane, Wash. and 43 other U.S. metropolitan areas, today announced the competitive award and installation of a 3-year contract to deliver integrated voice and data services to Avista Labs of Spokane.
Time Warner Telecom is delivering its new VersiPak Mach2 service to Avista Labs to provide digital telephone and dedicated Internet access (DIA) to employees. VersiPak Mach2 is a converged, often called bonded, T1 service that combines one T1 of PRI voice service and one T1 of Internet bandwidth. Avista Labs contracted for an Internet committed information rate minimum of 1.563 Mbps, which is burstable to a 2.880 Mbps peak information rate. Time Warner Telecom's VersiPak service is unique in that it dynamically reallocates stranded voice bandwidth to Internet capacity when voice channels are not in use. This service is helpful for businesses with 50 to 500 employees needing more efficient use and integration of their voice, long distance and Internet access.
"Time Warner Telecom was the only vendor who offered burstable capacity technology," said Brian Sossaman, manager of information technologies at Avista Labs. "From a data throughput and cost standpoint, they were the best by far. We now get twice the capacity for about the same price with voice service and burstable capabilities thrown into the mix. The VersiPak service makes it possible for us to consistently use the full capacity for which we contracted."
Avista Labs is also using the doubled capacity to establish a virtual private network accessible by mobile workers including, sales reps, application engineers and field technicians. "I don't have to put a modem bank online to support these people any more," said Sossaman. "This has given our employees much greater flexibility in using wireless and WiFi links to access our network. That makes doing their jobs easier."
