Time Warner Telecom Wins Voice and Transport Services Contract for Brigham Young University - Hawaii

Posted on: Thursday, 11 December 2003, 06:00 CST

HONOLULU, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses in Hawaii and 21 other states, today announced the competitive award of a 3-year contract to deliver voice and transport communications services to Brigham Young University's campus in Laie on Oahu, Hawaii.

Time Warner Telecom installed four ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI) voice communications services to support the University's six student dormitories in November. Five additional ISDN PRIs are scheduled for January installation in the University's campus Administrative building. Brigham Young University will also deploy a DS3 linking it to the University of Hawaii's academic and Internet network.

"Because we are located in a remote location, we need a carrier who can deliver communications network monitoring capabilities to proactively identify potential outages before they happen," said Bret Ellis, vice president of information technology at Brigham Young University Hawaii. "Time Warner Telecom was the only carrier that demonstrated that capability. We also liked the redundancy in their fiber optic network because that means reliability. Overall, I'd say their high level of responsiveness has inspired confidence in their network as well as their commitment to quickly dispatch a truck roll in the event that becomes necessary."

"Brigham Young University has special needs due to its remote location," said Galen Haneda, Time Warner Telecom general manager in Honolulu. "We were able to tailor a custom solution to meet those needs and deliver economical voice and data service. Having a redundant, self-healing fiber optic network is a key component to ensure the reliability the University requires."
