Boy, 10, Critical After SUV Hits Him He Was Struck By the Vehicle's Mirror While Standing Next to the Road.

A 10-year-old Jacksonville boy was in critical condition Sunday after he was struck by a passing sport utility vehicle in the 13400 block of Old Plank Road.
The boy, whose name was not immediately available, had gotten off a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle and was standing on the shoulder when he was struck in the head by the mirror of the SUV, which was westbound, said Sgt. Jay Farhat of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The boy was taken to Shands Jacksonville by helicopter following the 5 p.m. accident.
The name of the 17-year-old driver of the sport utility vehicle was not immediately available. No tickets were issued Sunday.

Two people died in a fiery collision with a Union County Sheriff's Office police car Saturday night on Light Plant Road at Florida 121 in Union County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The driver and passenger of a Chevrolet pickup truck were being pursued at 9:27 p.m. on Light Plant Road by Union County deputy Kenneth Smith because the driver was a suspect in a shooting, the highway patrol said.
Deputy James Lee tried to help, entering the road from Florida 121. But his car was struck by the truck, the highway patrol said. Both vehicles burst into flames and came to a stop. Smith rescued Lee from the burning patrol car. Smith suffered burns on his arms, and Lee suffered injuries, the highway patrol said.
The driver and passenger of the truck, who were not identified, both died. The incident happened near Worthington Springs.

A man walked into an ABC Fine Wine & Spirits store Saturday night, put a gun on the counter and said, "Father, forgive me for what I am about to do," according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report. Then he robbed the place.
The man entered the store at 721 S. McDuff Ave. at 8:10 p.m. and asked for a bottle of E&J brandy, the report said. Then he pulled out a black revolver, begged forgiveness and demanded cash.
The man fled with the money and brandy.

A Macclenny motorcyclist died about 1:30 p.m. Sunday after colliding with a truck that turned in his path just west of Starke, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Ralph Eugene Pollard, 56, was southbound on County Road 225 at Northwest 188 Street in Bradford County behind a group of other motorcycles when a pickup truck driven by Fredrick Allen Magyari, 54, of Starke, turned left into his path.
Pollard, who was wearing a helmet, hit the front of the pickup truck. It was unknown if Magyari was wearing a seat belt. A report by the highway patrol said he suffered possible injuries. No tickets were issued Sunday.

A 65-year-old New Hampshire man died after a motorcycle crash on Florida A1A in Flagler County on Saturday afternoon, the highway patrol said.
William Gilbody of Merrimack, N.H., was traveling south on A1A on a 2006 Harley-Davidson near Old A1A. He entered a right curve at a speed above the 55-mph limit and drove off the road, the highway patrol said.
Gilbody, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control of the motorcycle and died after suffering severe head trauma, the highway patrol said.
