WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of independent programming networks today announced the formation of a new trade association, the Association of Independent Programming Networks (AIPN), to promote the business, legislative and regulatory interests of independently owned video programming channels. Seven networks have joined the organization thus far, including founding members The Tennis Channel, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), ImaginAsian TV and The America Channel.
In view of the substantial benefits that independent programming networks bring to industry and the consumer, the AIPN will work to further these public benefits and provide its members with voice and support in national matters relating to the video programming marketplace.
"Independent programming channels promote competition and consumer choice, create new markets for video content, expand the diversity of ideas and information in the marketplace, and improve the quality of our national discourse," stated Randy Brown, SVP Distribution for The Tennis Channel and a director of the organization.
ImaginAsian's Anil Srivatsa added, "Independent channels are some of the most original and compelling products available. The AIPN will aim to help independent channels realize their full potential."
"2006 will be a year of particular focus on telecom legislation," stated Doron Gorshein of The America Channel. "We look forward to working with the AIPN's constituent members, to help promote an environment in which industry and the consumer are availed the best and cheapest content products on the market."
