AlterPoint Joins EMC Smarts Technology Alliance Program
AlterPoint, the leading provider of intelligent network change and configuration management solutions, today announced the company’s enlistment in the EMC Smarts Technology Alliance Program. As part of the agreement, AlterPoint announced its DeviceAuthority adapter for EMC Smarts. The adapter enables integration of AlterPoint’s network visualization, automation and governance enterprise software with Smarts’ automated analysis and impact assessment engine. Customers will now have better controls in place at the network device layer, increasing availability, security and compliance while reducing cost and risk.
Integration with EMC Smarts
EMC Smarts automates real-time root-cause analysis of IP network availability problems, and then provides extensive impact analysis. DeviceAuthority automates and manages the configurations of routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless access points and other network devices. The integrated solution provides customers with faster troubleshooting and improved controls and capabilities to ensure compliance with internal and external configuration and change standards, specifically:
– Real-time notification of configuration changes – DeviceAuthority notifies Smarts when a configuration change occurs, including the "who, what, when and where" of the configuration change, as well as any hardware or software modifications associated with the change.
– Automated problem resolution – Once identified, problems can be resolved quickly by launching DeviceAuthority and implementing the appropriate configuration change.
"AlterPoint and EMC Smarts share a common, model-based technology vision that enables greater visualization for improved automation, security and compliance," said Dave Barry, AlterPoint vice president for business development. "Our integrated solutions make problem resolution more granular, contextual and timely, while automating tedious tasks to help network engineers and managers focus their attentions on more strategic issues."
By combining AlterPoint’s DeviceAuthority with Smarts, companies and service providers can proactively monitor, manage and enforce compliance, security, change and inventory to maximize IT performance and reduce risk. The two technologies complement each other by providing integrated real-time and historical insight into a network’s configuration and performance. This integrated insight makes it easier for customers to solve related issues at the cause rather than having to rely on the limited model provided by "siloed" fault and performance management systems.
"Effective change and configuration management at the network level is key to an end-to-end systems management strategy," said Chris Gahagan, senior vice president, EMC Software. "By combining the strengths of two market leaders with complementary solutions, our customers now have a seamless method for assuring high application uptime by eliminating problems and reducing mean-time-to-repair."
