Waggener Edstrom Chosen to Support Launch of Connexion by Boeing Service

Posted on: Monday, 20 October 2003, 06:00 CDT

SEATTLE, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Waggener Edstrom Strategic Communications today announced it has added Connexion by Boeing to its expanding roster of clients. Connexion by Boeing(SM) is a dynamic and innovative new service that offers an unparalleled array of high-speed data communications services through a "space-based" network. The system provides air travelers with high- speed in-flight e-mail, Internet and intranet services. Waggener Edstrom will provide support for an integrated awareness campaign around the service, leading up to and through its global commercial launch in spring 2004.

"The implications of this innovative new service are far-reaching, offering passengers a commanding communications tool that will dramatically enhance airline travel," said Melissa Waggener Zorkin, CEO, president and founder of Waggener Edstrom. "Connexion by Boeing will allow passengers to securely access corporate information, shop online, send e-mail messages and perform online banking transactions, and it's a thrilling proposition to help launch this service."

Connexion by Boeing serves two important market segments -- commercial aircraft operators and their passengers -- as well as executive aircraft, including operators of private and government executive jets. Using laptops or personal digital assistants (PDAs), passengers can enjoy secure broadband access to the Internet, personal and business e-mail accounts, and company intranets. They also will be able to send and receive large attachments and view entertainment content at DSL-like speeds. The value extends beyond passenger services, enabling operators to use Connexion by Boeing's extraordinary bandwidth to obtain operational efficiencies, improve customer service, and enhance security with a worldwide network of ground stations and round-the-clock customer care support.

"Following the extremely positive results from two concurrent airline trials of the Connexion by Boeing service earlier this year, the opportunity to launch this service globally provides tremendous communications opportunities," said Sherry Nebel, vice president of Communications at Connexion by Boeing. "We believe the most powerful support for the service will come from the users themselves. That's why prelaunch awareness is so pivotal."
