New Unisys ES7000/400 Series Introduces 64-Bit Enterprise Computing at Entry-Level Price

Posted on: Monday, 30 June 2003, 06:00 CDT

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 2003--

New Series Enables Enterprises to Double Memory for Higher

Performance and Supports from Four to 32 Intel Itanium 2

Processors

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today unveiled the Itanium 2-based ES7000/400 series. An expansion to its enterprise server line, the new series starts with a four-processor server based on the newest Itanium 2 processors and can be expanded to a powerful 32-processor model targeted for high-end computing. This enables organizations to acquire and grow performance as their business needs grow.

Organizations can add processors to an ES7000/400 as needed, to adjust to the changing demands of the business. The ES7000/400 series also doubles the amount of memory available. Clients can add memory to the systems as required.

"With the new ES7000/400 server line, customers are able to start small and grow large -- with the option to add performance and power to their enterprises as business needs grow," said Kevin McHugh, vice president of Unisys Platform Marketing. "Businesses are looking for an affordable, manageable and scalable point of entry to run their mission-critical 64-bit databases and applications. The ES7000/400 servers provide just that -- a flexible and expandable starting point -- delivering very high return on investment."

Sage Telecom, a fast-growing competitive local exchange carrier in the U.S., is the first customer to take delivery of a Unisys ES7000/410 Itanium 2 server. Sage will use the ES7000 server to run its mission-critical customer applications.

"Our 64-bit ES7000/410 server will transform our enterprise by giving us the power to handle the most intensive database and application workloads," said Russell Clarkson, Vice President of Information Systems, Sage Telecom. "Enterprises can benefit from the added scalability, speed and memory that Itanium 2 technology offers, to not only take on their current day-to-day computing challenges, but to rise up and drive their long-range IT objectives."

"The ES7000/430 gives us the scalability, power and memory to anchor our most critical database and application workloads around a cost-effective and highly adaptive solution," said Russell Clarkson, vice president of Information Systems, Sage Telecom. "As a rapidly growing business we are depending on the headroom and availability of the ES7000/430 server, to not only take on our current day-to-day computing challenges, but to rise up and drive our long-range IT objectives."

Taking advantage of the increased memory addressability of Itanium 2, the ES7000/400 servers are built for memory-intensive applications such as online analytical processing (OLAP) for decision support and the consolidation of multiple file-and-print servers. In addition, customers have the option of doubling the amount of memory available when they need it, by adding 2-GB dual in-line memory modules (DIMM).

"Unisys can bring strong performance and investment protection to customers with its new Itanium 2-based ES7000/400 family," said Richard Dracott, marketing director, Intel Enterprise Platforms Group. "Unisys systems will be very competitive in the mid-tier and high end of the marketplace."
