Sun's Solaris 10(TM) OS and X64 Servers Support VeriSign's Internet Infrastructure For .Com And .Net Traffic, Voice, Data, and Multimedia Services

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems Inc. today announced that VeriSign, Inc. has successfully used Sun's x64 (x86, 64-bit) servers based on the AMD Opteron(TM) processor to lower costs and provide critical scalability and reliability for its Advanced Transaction Look-up and Signaling (ATLAS(TM)) global infrastructure. Running the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS), the Sun Fire(TM) V40z server performs nearly two million transactions per second, helping companies achieve greater processing efficiencies for large-scale IT infrastructure. VeriSign has now added Sun's new x64 server, the Sun Fire X2100, to its internet infrastructure that manages over 15 billion transactions per day in operating .com and .net. ATLAS is a sophisticated platform designed to scale the Internet's core infrastructure, the Domain Name System (DNS), and support emerging voice, data and multimedia services delivered via the Internet. Using the Solaris 10 OS and Sun Fire x64 servers, ATLAS manages billions of transactions each day and is incredibly reliable, providing greater than 99.999 percent data integrity and service and thwarting Internet attacks such as Denial-of-Service (DoS).
