Uplogix Announces Automated Support for Remote Satellite Communication Devices
Posted on: Tuesday, 7 February 2006, 09:00 CST
Uplogix(TM), the leading provider of automated network support solutions, today unveiled new product support for managing a wide range of satellite communication devices through the company's remote management solution, Envoy. With this new device support, Envoy extends its revolutionary intelligent out-of-band architecture to customers with satellite-based networks ensuring they have a secure, reliable means of accessing, monitoring and controlling these devices, as well as an alternate, out-of-band path to immediately re-establish communications when network service is disrupted.
The new devices supported from Uplogix include VSAT modems, stabilized antenna controllers, RF amplifiers, GPS devices and wireless access points from leading manufacturers. Using a serial connection, Envoy can now access, control and provision remote satellite communications equipment typically found on marine vessels, offshore rigs, or other remote sites.
With this added device support, Uplogix Envoy can automate many of the same routine network management tasks for satellite-based networks just as it does for terrestrial-based networks including collecting and reporting device statistics, configuring and provisioning remote devices, controlling user access, and remotely diagnosing and fixing problems. In addition, if the main network communications link is disrupted, Envoy has the added ability to automatically establish a secure, out-of-band connection by dialing out to a satellite modem configured to communicate over GlobalStar or Iridium's low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. This powerful feature set enables satellite communications' providers to both increase network availability and reduce remote network support costs.
"We've responded to our customers' requests and delivered an industry first - automated communications and control of remote satellite network devices," said Barry Cox, chief executive officer, Uplogix. "This is an ideal solution for customers who require non-stop availability of their satellite voice and data networks, and are looking to reduce their remote tech support costs."
Uplogix is exhibiting at the Satellite 2006 conference in Washington, DC from February 7th to February 9th at the Washington Convention Center. You can visit them in booth #1501 to learn more about the Uplogix satellite communications' offering. Uplogix CEO, Barry Cox, is also participating in a panel discussion on Tuesday, February 7th at 3:45PM titled, "Advanced Technologies: Hardware And Management For Tomorrow's Applications."
