WiredRed Software Announces the e/pop Web Conferencing Server

Posted on: Wednesday, 15 October 2003, 06:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WiredRed(TM), a worldwide technology leader in enterprise real-time communications software, today announced the e/pop(R) Web Conferencing Server at the Instant Messaging Planet Conference. Currently in Beta and scheduled for commercial release in Q4 of this year, the Server provides multi-point audio and synchronous video conferencing plus complete desktop, application and document sharing. WiredRed's out-of-the box web conferencing software enables dynamic presentation sharing, which eliminates the need for pre-session PowerPoint uploads, and enables multiple presenters and participants to also share desktops and applications. In addition, conference attendees can share and transfer files in real-time.

The e/pop Web Conferencing Server provides true multi-point audio and video and supports both proprietary and industry standard audio and video codecs including GSM, MPEG4 and H263. It features an innovative user interface with dockable tabs and dialogs to suit individual viewing preferences when sharing multiple documents and/or multi-point video.

Barr Management, which owns and operates 48 currency exchanges in the greater Chicago area, recently started testing the e/pop Web Conferencing Server.

"I was interested in trying the e/pop Web Conferencing Server because we believe it's a less expensive alternative to services that provide similar functionality and includes high quality multi-party audio and video capabilities as well," explained Jon Klein, vice president and general manager of Barr Management. "It will allow us to train new and existing employees quickly and more efficiently and we plan to use the archiving feature to save training sessions so employees can download them at their convenience. We also think the e/pop Web Conferencing Server will be a great way to gather groups of employees online to have quick, yet effective, meetings in which we can interact as if we are in the same room."

The Server utilizes WiredRed's Real Time Routing Architecture(TM), a secure two-way communications platform that can be used to build a variety of custom applications and powers the entire e/pop product line, including all e/pop clients, servers and software development kits (SDKs).

According to WiredRed's Founder and CEO Allen Drennan, web conferencing is a significant milestone in the natural evolution of real-time communications that started with Enterprise Instant Messaging several years ago.

"WiredRed was one of the first companies to bring true Enterprise Instant Messaging to business. From the start, our product roadmap called for our Real-Time Routing Architecture to provide the platform which would enable a variety of real-time communications applications," said Drennan. "The e/pop Web Conferencing Server is one such application that completely addresses the main complaints of managed services providing similar functionality -- cost, performance and reliability."

According to a report from Wainhouse Research LLC, web conferencing services had combined revenues of $315 million last year and the industry is expected to grow 22 percent per year during the next five years.
