Telenor Satellite Services Unveils Aggressive BGAN Sales Program
Posted on: Wednesday, 8 February 2006, 06:00 CST
Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway (Oslo Stock Exchange:TEL and NASDAQ:TELN), today unveiled its 2006 worldwide incentive program for its Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) Service.
BGAN is commercially available to customers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa with commercial launch throughout the Americas expected in the 2nd quarter of 2006.
Telenor's BGAN Terminal "Swap" Program
Through the end of June 2006 or while supply lasts, Telenor Satellite Services, through its global network of service providers and partners, is offering free airtime and BGAN equipment discounts for customers who turn in an old handheld satellite phone for a new BGAN terminal. Under the terms of this exclusive Telenor program, BGAN users can receive a combination of free airtime and equipment discounts worth up to $1,500, depending on the terminal model purchased.
"With BGAN, customers get the same low-cost voice calls, less than a dollar a minute, combined with high-speed data and Internet connectivity, in a 'go anywhere' satellite terminal," said Anders Kallerud, vice president of sales for Telenor Satellite Services.
Telenor Features No BGAN Activation or Subscription Fees
Telenor has eliminated BGAN activation fees. Additionally, the company has launched the Telenor BGAN Anytime Plan that eliminates monthly subscription fees. Instead of a monthly subscription fee, users of the Telenor BGAN Anytime Plan agree to a low charge of 10 MB of airtime per month. The 10 MB are good for a year and unused monthly portions automatically rollover to the next month. "Telenor's BGAN Anytime Plan is ideally designed for both full-time and occasional users," Kallerud said. "The Anytime Plan can be readily activated electronically using Telenor's exclusive online management tool, The Source(R) or by filling out a standard Telenor Subscription Form."
Telenor Satellite Services is the only BGAN Distribution Partner to offer Terralink(TM), a proprietary IP networking platform and Global Points of Presence (PoP) Network enabling Telenor's BGAN users to take IP networking to higher levels of performance and capability.
The Telenor BGAN PoP located in Norway is an integrated part of the Inmarsat BGAN Core Network and is connected to the Inmarsat Satellite Access Station through high-capacity leased lines. Terralink enables IP-connectivity for all BGAN services, including the robust new Streaming IP services with guaranteed data rates up to 256 Kbps. Terralink offers a range of service connection options, each with increasing levels of service quality and security. The premium option enables end-to-end security and guaranteed bandwidth for BGAN users through easy and cost-efficient access to Telenor's worldwide customer interconnect points.
"Telenor's Terralink platform delivers a distinct service advantage for our BGAN customers by providing them global communications access from a virtual one-stop-shop for all BGAN service, support, and value added services," Kallerud said. "We also offer Telenor Service Providers and BGAN users access to our industry-leading online account management services via Telenor's exclusive management tools such as The Source(R) and My Source(TM)."
BGAN is the world's first global, mobile service to provide voice and broadband data simultaneously. BGAN is the latest addition to the Telenor Portfolio of Broadband, On Demand and Value Added Services.
