Tokyo, Feb. 8 (Jiji Press)--NEC Corp. will enter the portable digital music player market, releasing its first model this month, NEC officials said Wednesday.
The device will be able to play and record videos as well as music, the officials said. The company will make a formal announcement on Tuesday.
Currently, Apple Computer Inc. dominates the market with the iPod player, which has won huge popularity among music fans worldwide. In order to better vie with Apple, major Japanese electronics makers, including Sony Corp. , have been stepping up their new model rollouts.
To break into the market, NEC aims to link the functions of its new digital device with those of its personal computers.END
