Zend Integrates Its PHP Infrastructure Solution With Sun Java System Web Server

Posted on: Monday, 3 November 2003, 06:00 CST

RAMAT GAN, Israel, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Zend Technologies Ltd., the creator of the PHP Web-scripting engine, and provider of solutions to develop, protect and scale enterprise PHP applications, today announced a suite of products that integrates with the Sun Java System Web Server 6.1, formerly known as Sun ONE Web Server 6.1, turning it into a top-performing Web server platform for PHP applications.

Zend and Sun have teamed to meet the growing demand for deploying enterprise-class PHP applications. The Sun Java System Web Server, widely adopted among corporate enterprises, delivers built-in Web security with high availability for all types of Web applications. PHP is the open-source scripting language used to develop mission-critical Web applications, and is deployed on over 10 million domains worldwide.

The product offering includes two components:

-- PHP Enabler for Sun Java System Web Server -- Enables PHP to integrate

and run smoothly with Java System Web Server. The module, using a

highly optimized FastCGI architecture, marries the reliability of PHP

as CGI with the extensibility and efficiency of in-process NSAPI

architecture.

-- Zend Performance Suite for Sun Java System Web Server -- Dramatically

improves the performance of PHP on the Java System Web Server. Zend

Performance Suite provides code acceleration, content caching, and data

compression, enabling enterprises to improve the response time and

server load ability of its web applications.

"Sun's secure Web infrastructure offerings target all Web applications that require enterprise level security and reliability," Chris Hogan, Senior Director, Java Web Services at Sun Microsystems. "With PHP rising into the mainstream coupled with our customers' expectation of reliability and performance, teaming with Zend is a natural choice."

"Working with Sun -- on Java System Web Server as well as on Java-based standards -- helps extend PHP even further into the enterprise," said Zeev Suraski, Co-Designer of PHP, and Co-Founder and CTO of Zend Technologies. "And since enterprise users can't compromise on support and performance, we are stepping up to answer the need."

Pricing and Availability

The PHP Enabler component for Sun Java System Web Server is available free of charge, without support. A package including full product support plus the Zend Performance Suite and the PHP enabler is priced starting at $775 per server.
