Aventail and Trust Digital Launch Integrated Secure Mobile Access Solution
Posted on: Tuesday, 14 February 2006, 09:00 CST
RSA -- Leading SSL VPN technology company Aventail Corp. is partnering with Trust Digital, the leading provider of mobile security software, to deliver an integrated security solution for mobile devices. The joint solution combines the secure, remote access capability of Aventail Mobile with Trust Digital's policy-based end point security, providing enterprises with secure, encrypted, and controlled access to network resources from smartphones and PDAs.
The two technology companies are teaming up as mobile devices are becoming increasingly prevalent among today's workforce, with an estimated one billion mobile devices in the market today. Millions of those smart phone and PDA users want to access network resources in the same way they do with their laptop or corporate asset.
"Mobile devices are a huge security risk. They are easily lost or stolen and present an easy avenue of attack for hackers; and yet, enterprises can not afford to deny the 100 million global mobile workers access to corporate resources and lose the associated productivity and cost savings," said Charles Kolodgy, research director, Secure Content and Threat Management Products, at IDC.
"Aventail and Trust Digital are taking positive steps to increase mobile device security by combining the access and security components. This will allow network managers to provide access while maintaining control and security of mobile devices," added Kolodgy.
Aventail and Trust Digital's software solutions work together to secure both the end point and the access to corporate resources. They do so by encrypting the information on the end point (U.S. government FIPS 140-2 validated encryption criteria), controlling what applications can run on the device, and providing granular access control to network applications based on policy. In addition, if the mobile device is lost or stolen, Trust Digital's solution locks the end point and encrypts all data on the device.
The joint solution features:
-- Password-locked secure encryption for PDAs and smartphones with complete, policy-based endpoint security -- Device interrogation for wireless admission control and remediation based on compliance requirements -- Always-on, fully transparent mobile data security, ensuring only approved data, applications, and devices can access sensitive corporate information -- Secure, over-the-air access to web, client server, and Exchange Active Sync applications -- Granular access control so only relevant content is provided to authorized users -- Proxied VPN connection directly to applications -- with no direct connection to the enterprise network
This announcement comes just four months after Aventail's launch of Aventail Mobile, a complete SSL VPN solution for PDAs and smart phones. Aventail Mobile includes both a clientless solution for unmanaged devices that allows easy access to Web-based applications from any mobile device; and a light-weight, Web-deployed agent that provides Windows Mobile PDA users with broad access to both Web and client/server applications.
This joint solution is available immediately through both companies. The two companies are also conducting joint engineering to enable deeper integration in the future. To read a white paper on how to "Secure Mobile Access Using SSL VPNs," go to: http://www.aventail.com/SSLVPN_Mobility/.
