New Secured eMail Improves Healthcare Industry Productivity -- Meets HIPAA Security and Privacy Requirements

Posted on: Tuesday, 14 February 2006, 12:00 CST

HIMSS Trade Show: Booth # 7232 -- Secured eMail Limited today announced its Secured eMail secure messaging system to the healthcare industry at the HIMSS 06 Annual Conference and Exhibition being held in San Diego, CA. HIPAA (Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) requirements have made email and electronic messaging especially challenging for the healthcare industry in terms of costs, productivity, resources, and complexity. Secured eMail solves all of those problems by utilizing three powerful encryption technologies to keep patient data private and secure but in an easy-to-use manner for senders, recipients, and administrators that does not require the use of cumbersome public key codes.

Healthcare Industry -- Email & Communications Challenges

-- Normal email doesn't meet HIPAA requirements. -- Email security utilizing PKI technology is expensive to purchase and maintain. -- Email security utilizing PKI technology is complex to administer and difficult to use. -- Healthcare industry does not have effective way to communicate electronically. -- Healthcare industry must spend significant resources to communicate patient data in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

"Our goal is to improve productivity for the entire healthcare industry by providing the world's most advanced and secure email encryption system for both internal and external electronic communications, but in a way that complies with HIPAA and is easy to use and administer for everyone involved," said Peter Davin, CEO for Secured eMail. "Now healthcare professionals can focus more on helping patients and be able work more efficiently with one another."

About HIPAA

The Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed by US Congress in August 1996. The act requires the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure standardization of electronic patient data and implement security standards to protect the confidentiality and integrity of individual's health information. HIPAA not only affects healthcare organizations such as healthcare providers, health plans, public health authorities but also affects other entities such as life insurers', information system vendors and various service organizations and universities.

Secured eMail Overview: Combining World-Class Security with Ease of Use

Triple Protection System with 256-Bit Encryption

Secured eMail(R) uses a combination of AES(TM) (Advanced Encryption Standard), the Secured eMail System SKG and SHA-1 algorithms to provide the highest level of secure email communication. These three factors together ensure that the email will be 100% secure from sender to receiver.

Dynamic One-Time Keys

To enhance email security dramatically, Secured eMail creates/generates a unique code key between sender and recipient for every new email sent in what is referred to as one-time dynamic keys. The Secured eMail patented System SKG(TM) generates 160-bit symmetric and dynamic one-time keys with the assistance of the Sha-1 algorithm. The email is then encrypted with the well-known AES256 algorithm which extends the size of the keys to 256 bit. The result is a message that can only be read by authorized parties.

Secure Channels -- Eliminate Server, Gateway & Internet Vulnerability

Secured eMail creates "secure channels" between two individual email addresses and their individual computers. The security advantage is that the email is sent directly C2C, computer to computer, instead of computer-to-server or server-to-server. Most other secure communications applications use a dedicated security server which can be a potential weak link where hackers can gain access to the security system.

Easiest to Use -- Interacts Well with All Email Types

Secured eMail works seamlessly with Microsoft OutlookCopyright by installing a new button called "Send Secured" as a separate option to the regular MS Outlook mail "Send" button. Users just have to click the "Send Secured" button to have their emails and attachments encrypted and sent securely to their recipient. Anyone with an email account can receive and read encrypted Secured eMail messages by simply downloading a FREE Reader version, which works with all software, PCs, and Web-based email services. Non-Secured eMail users can receive and read secure encrypted messages and even reply with their own messages and attachments using the same secure encryption technology.
