Oculan Announces New Line of ‘Purple Boxes’ for Mid-Market; “Distributed Architecture Suite” to include new OcuSys appliance, plus new releases for entire family of appliances

RALEIGH, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 24, 2003–Oculan(R) Corporation (www.purplebox.com) announced that it is launching a new line of network management and security appliances for networks larger than those managed by the company’s flagship product, the Oculan 250(TM), released earlier this year. The Distributed Architecture Suite (DAS) includes the addition of a new appliance, OcuSys(TM), to Oculan’s family of ‘purple boxes’ and new releases for existing appliances.

The Oculan 250 remains the primary solution for smaller customers and provides multi-function management for networks of up to 25 network infrastructure devices, 25 servers, and 250 desktops. Larger customers with larger networks can meet their network management needs with the DAS offering. Oculan’s OpticNerve(TM) network management appliance will continue to serve as the centerpiece of the DAS solution and is now available in three different options to manage networks up to 50 network devices, up to 100 devices, or the “Unlimited” version for larger enterprise networks.

OcuSys, Oculan’s upcoming new appliance for managing up to 500 desktops and 50 servers, replaces Oculan’s Iris(TM) software agent for desktops and servers. The other two distributed appliances that join OcuSys in the DAS offering are OcuGuard(TM) (formerly EyeLID(R)) for intrusion detection and OcuStat(TM) for network bandwidth and traffic analysis. Each appliance integrates with the OpticNerve to provide a comprehensive infrastructure management solution with one user interface.

Of the four appliances that comprise the DAS offering, the three that are currently shipping are OpticNerve 4.1, OcuGuard 3.0, and OcuStat 1.0. The new OcuSys 1.0, which brings the Oculan 250′s server and desktop management to the DAS, is currently in beta and is scheduled to begin shipping in mid- to late July. Acquiring an Oculan DAS solution requires purchase of the centerpiece OpticNerve via Oculan’s channel partners. The customer then adds any combination of the three remaining appliances depending on their network management needs.
