Carrier Launches Full-Mobility Rollout of 3G Services in Indonesia
COSTA MESA, Calif., Jan. 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) congratulates PT Mobile-8 Telecom on the carrier's commercial deployment of 3G CDMA2000(r) services, available today for subscribers in Indonesia. The launch of PT Mobile-8 Telecom's network is the first full-mobility CDMA2000 rollout in Indonesia.
Subscribers to PT Mobile-8 Telecom will now have access to a wide range of robust 3G services and applications. In addition to basic voice services, PT Mobile-8 Telecom will now offer high-speed and mobile access to the Internet, streaming video, location positioning, e-mail, and games.
"As Asia continues to lead the globe in offering 3G networks, Indonesian subscribers will now join the technology savvy consumers in the region who are already enjoying the advanced features that can only be offered by CDMA2000 technology," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "We applaud PT Mobile-8 Telecom on their leadership in bringing CDMA2000 to the wireless subscribers of Indonesia."
The introduction of 3G services is expected to bring substantial economic and social benefits to Indonesia.
PT Mobile-8 Telecom, a privately owned telecommunications carrier in Indonesia, agreed earlier this summer to launch a CDMA2000 network with Samsung. The enhanced system will be equipped to accommodate more than 1.9 million subscribers.
In Asia, the leading region for high-technology trends, CDMA2000 clearly leads the wireless market with 40 million users, cutting-edge applications and slick, feature-rich devices. There are 27 CDMA2000 commercial networks in 19 countries throughout the region, including four CDMA2000 1xEV-DO advanced high-speed data networks. More than 60 percent of Asian CDMA subscribers use 3G technologies and CDMA2000 penetration will continue to increase, as carriers plan for increased take-up of 3G services.
CDMA2000 dominates 3G today, with more than 65 million subscribers, or 99 percent of the global 3G market. There are 80 commercial CDMA2000 networks today and nine will be deployed within the next six months in Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
