SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The nation's sixth largest school district, Clark County, NV, has selected Extreme Networks, Inc., , for its expansive network upgrade encompassing 289 schools. The 250,000-port network will leverage Extreme's wire-speed performance and advanced bandwidth management to enhance the classroom experience with converged communications and high-speed network connections for more than 290,000 combined students and staff.
Clark County School District (CCSD), expected to grow at an average rate of one new school per month, is performing this extensive, multi-year LAN backbone and network edge upgrade with the goal to deliver flawless network performance backed by scalable and reliable Gigabit Ethernet. The network is being equipped to deliver 100 megabits of edge connectivity at every site and is expertly designed and constructed for redundancy and fault tolerance. This approach readies the infrastructure for demanding networked applications including IP multicast video and VoIP, with digital phone handsets planned in every room, thus saving telecom costs and providing value-added communication features.
"Extending bandwidth with the ease and consistency of Extreme Networks' high performance switching platforms will reduce the magnitude of headaches associated with such a large-scale renovation project," said Dr. Philip J. Brody, chief technology officer and assistant superintendent for the Clark County School District. "Our network will gain a sizeable leap in performance and reliability for the applications we deploy both today and down the road."
The selection of Extreme Networks' award-winning Summit(R) switching platform has resulted in a robust network foundation that is consistent to handle rich traffic from streaming multimedia applications and Video-on-Demand. The entire network is easy-to-manage and configure with administration of services and workgroups automated through Extreme's EPICenter(TM) management software. Switching devices can be added to the network and remotely managed and settings can be easily replicated across the infrastructure.
"Clark County School District is implementing a major network upgrade to support hundreds of computing and non-computing devices that requires the genuine simplicity and higher performance multi-layer switching that is synonymous with the Extreme brand," said Duncan Potter, vice president of marketing for Extreme Networks, Inc. "Consistency of performance and comprehensive bandwidth management make all of the difference for large distributed campus settings that are consolidating their communications and applications into a single converged network."
