ROAD safety campaigners are celebrating after the announcement that two new speed cameras are being installed in Great Barr.
The cameras, to be installed in Hamstead Road, have been given the go-ahead by Sandwell Council in a bid to cut the speed of motorists and prevent accidents.
Newton councillor Joyce Underhill said: "Traffic calming measures have been evident on Hamstead Road for a few years and have been one of the council's most successful schemes, hopefully these cameras will be as successful."
She added: "All we need now are traffic lights at the Old Walsall Road and Hamstead Road junction."
The new cameras will be located near the junctions of Green Lane and Walcot Drive.
