Feb. 21--TOKYO -- Toshiba Corp. unveiled Tuesday a new line of digital flat-screen TV sets under the global brand name "Regza" in an attempt to capitalize on the rapid growth of the sector in the world market.
The company said it will end sales of cathode-ray tube TVs for the domestic market in April.
The new liquid crystal display televisions, ranging in size from 26 inches to 42 inches, are to enter the markets from March 1 through early May, Toshiba said.
Toshiba hopes to raise its share of the domestic market for flat-screen TVs to 15 percent in fiscal 2006 from the current 13 percent and that of the global market to more than 10 percent from 8.5 percent.
LCD and plasma display panel flat-screen TVs are expected to account for some 78 percent of Toshiba's television sales in Japan in fiscal 2006, compared with 20 percent in fiscal 2003, the company said.
For the domestic market, all "Regza" models will have high-definition screens.
While Toshiba will suggest no retail prices for its new TVs, a 42-inch model with a hard-disk recorder is expected to carry a price tag of around 500,000 yen.
