Force Computers Announces North America Demonstration of AdvancedTCA (ATCA) System at Bus & Board/2004

Posted on: Monday, 19 January 2004, 06:00 CST

BUS&BOARD/2004 -- Force Computers, a Solectron company and a leader in embedded computing, today announced its first official North America demonstration of an Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA(TM)/ATCA(TM)) system at Bus&Board/2004. The demo illustrates Force's continuous leadership for the fast-growing, standards-based ATCA telecom architecture -- in boards and systems. Proving a common platform can achieve interoperability with off-the-shelf solutions from multiple, outsource vendors, the system integrates GoAhead High Availability (HA) middleware, Hughes Software Systems (HSS) based Distributed MTP3 (DMTP3) protocol software, Intel(R) NetStructure(TM) MPCBL0001 High Performance Single Board Computers, MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition and Solid Information Technology embedded database technology. Showing strength in ATCA integration, Force's demo uses true modular computing products including blade, software/middleware and other building blocks to cut design costs and time-to-market for telecom infrastructure such as softswitches, media servers and other broadband platforms. Force Computers is a Premier Member of the Intel(R) Communications Alliance (ICA).

"As the ATCA market leader for blades, boards, systems and turnkey designs, Force is uniquely positioned to drive the market for integrated solutions," said Chris Williams, Force vice president and general manager of worldwide product and strategic marketing and engineering. "In addition, we're proud to partner with Intel in the Intel Communications Alliance, a community of communications and embedded developers and solution providers as a Premier Member -- the top level of participation."

System Configuration Demonstrated at Bus&Board/2004

At Bus&Board/2004, on Jan. 19-20 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, Force will showcase its common ATCA platform demo -- based on the Centellis(TM) DS 31KX development system. As a leading integrator of ATCA technology, Force designed the system to interoperate with a range of blade and software/middleware building blocks from multiple, outsource vendors -- especially those from fellow ICA members, including GoAhead, HSS, MontaVista and Solid. The demo features:

-- 13U/14-slot ATCA chassis with cooling -- Shelf Management Controller with SNMP remote access -- Redundant Base Channel Gigabit Ethernet Switch -- Dual Force ATCA-711 blades featuring Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Processor -

M and running MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition 3.0 -- Dual Force Fibre Channel ATCA storage blades -- for server

applications -- Two Intel(R) NetStructure(TM) MPCBL0001 High Performance Single Board

Computers featuring Low Voltage Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processors with Intel

NetBurst(R) microarchitecture and running MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade

Edition 3.0 -- GoAhead SelfReliant 7500 High Availability middleware -- adapted and

tightly integrated into Force's EndurX HA product series -- with active and

standby master and active and standby client -- demonstrating application

fail-over -- Solid Autonomic Data Management Platform -- integrated with Force's

EndurX HA series and GoAhead SelfReliant 7500 HA middleware -- to provide a

hot-standby database configuration for "five nines" controller card data

reliability -- HSS-based DMTP3 -- from Force's StackWare telecom software -- with

MTP2 layers and DS1 interfaces provided by PMCs and DMTP3 hosted on Linux

"The standards-based modular approach to delivering next generation telecom infrastructure products is rapidly gaining momentum within the telecom industry," said Anthony Ambrose, general manager, Intel Modular Platform Programs. "Modular solutions offer service providers faster time-to-market with lower capital and operating costs. Thus, utilizing the combination of Intel building blocks with the ATCA platform architecture positions Force to respond to specific equipment-provider needs."
