MapInfo Unveils Newest Version of Universal Location Intelligence Platform

Posted on: Wednesday, 22 February 2006, 09:00 CST

MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today introduced Envinsa(TM) Version 4.0, a comprehensive unified location platform. With Envinsa v4.0, organizations in all industries can derive the greatest value from location information, resulting in increased revenue, lower costs, enhanced efficiencies and improved service.

Location intelligence is a critical component of helping a business be successful--from planning marketing campaigns to determining sales territories to automating the field force to offering enhanced online services to customers. Yet, organizations, especially those with large and geographically dispersed customers, employees and assets, typically do not have the ability to leverage this information across departments. Envinsa v4.0 enables organizations to centrally manage location analysis capabilities and apply them throughout the organization, maximizing business potential.

"Envinsa represents a powerful platform for organizations to more effectively identify opportunities, improve profitability and analyze competitive threats--all of which are paramount ingredients for success," said Mike Hickey, COO, MapInfo. "From telecommunications to public sector to retail, Envinsa continues to be the ideal solution for helping companies delve deeper into their data to solve critical operational problems."

Envinsa v4.0 Enhancements Result in Increased Efficiencies

Envinsa v4.0 includes a host of new location intelligence capabilities designed to provide much deeper insight into data. A retailer can use Envinsa v4.0 to calculate the "drive time" to specific stores, helping it determine where to place a new location based on the distance or time people are willing to travel.

Envinsa v4.0 also supports new data sources such as Oracle(R) 10g. Companies can perform powerful location analysis against this data to better understand location relationships and patterns. For instance, an insurance agent can query its database to determine the exact distance a property is from a coastline and using the same data, an assessor can analyze historic claims to adjust future rates. Another advancement with version 4.0 is expanded support for interoperability standards such as the Open Geospatial Consortium specifications, including certification for Web Mapping Service 1.1.1.

In addition, Envinsa v4.0 provides access to network-generated location data from the Sprint PCS(R) Business Mobility Framework, enabling organizations to provide improved field force management using real-time location intelligence.

Due to its web services interface, Envinsa v4.0 provides developers with the flexibility to integrate location intelligence into literally hundreds of applications that can be deployed in nearly any environment. Customers are using Envinsa to make legacy systems location-aware, enriching mobile devices with location intelligence and even to add new capabilities to desktop applications or create unique Web applications.
