By Grand Forks Herald, N.D.

Feb. 23--Ice and snow have made for slick driving conditions in some parts of the region this morning, according to transportation departments in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Driving conditions are reported to be difficult in north central Minnesota, right around Beltrami and Clearwater counties, as icy patches dot county and state highways.

Traffic speeds in northeastern Minnesota are normal, according to the transportation department. Roads in Mahnomen, Lake of the Woods, Polk, Pennington, and Marshall counties are a bit slippery, but driving conditions were reportedly fair after 7 a.m. today.

In Roseau and Kittson counties, driving conditions were reportedly good today.

In North Dakota, traffic speeds are reduced in Grand Forks, Ramsey, Nelson, Rolette, Cavalier, and Pembina counties, due to ground drifting and scattered icy patches, according to the transportation department.

According to the transportation department, conditions on major routes in North Dakota are as follows:

-- Interstate 29: Scattered ice from Mayville exit to Buxton, and from just north of the Buxton exit to Minto.

-- U.S. Highway 2: Scattered ice from Granville to Grand Forks.

-- U.S. Highway 81: Scattered ice from Manvel to Joliette.

-- U.S. Highway 281: Scattered ice from Carrington to Devils Lake, and from Churchs Ferry to Canadian border.

-- N.D. Highway 5: Scattered ice west of Dunseith, from Rock Lake to Clyde, from 10 miles east of Langdon to Cavalier, and from Cavalier to Hamilton.

-- N.D. Highway 200: Scattered ice from Carrington to Glenfield, from Finley to I-29, and from I-29 to Minnesota line.
