Mar. 1--WADSWORTH -- When the Indians step onto the lush green grass of Jacobs Field this year, subscribers of the city-owned cable service will be able to catch all the action.
Wadsworth officials announced Tuesday that they reached a deal with Fastball Sports Productions to televise 130 regular-season games beginning March 12. The city signed a three-year pact, with the financial terms being kept confidential, said Chris Easton, the city's service director.
"We've been working with them for a while, and we're looking forward to providing that service on Wadsworth Cable," Easton said.
The games will be broadcast on Channel 77, with the station also showing pregame and postgame talks and possibly local sports programming as well, Easton said.
Wadsworth Cable has about 3,600 subscribers, which amounts to about 45 percent of the cable viewers in the Wadsworth service area. Time Warner Cable, which also has a deal in place to broadcast the Tribe games, also serves Wadsworth-area residents.
Fastball Sports is the media company formed by the Indians' owners to produce broadcasts of the games and supporting programs. While it has completed a deal with Time Warner, contracts with other cable and satellite providers have not been inked with money reported to be the sticking point.
Fastball President Jim Liberatore was in a meeting late Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.
