Analysys International Says Server Shipments in China Reached 137,000, With Market Value 4.75 Billion in Fourth Quarter 2005

BEIJING, March 3 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Analysys International, a leading Internet based provider of business information about technology, new media and telecom industries in China, says server shipments in China were 137,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2005, representing an increase of 19.3% from the fourth quarter of 2004, and the market value reached RMB 4.75 billion, increasing 6.1% YoY, in its recently released report China Server Market Quarterly Tracker Q4 2005.
According to the report, in the fourth quarter of 2005, growth in x86 server market was obvious, and unit shipments reached 127,000, increasing 18.5% YoY. Market value of x86 servers reached RMB 2.33 billion, increasing 8.5% YoY. Entry-level and mid-range servers showed great development potential. High-end dual-core processor servers were also favored by the market.
Unit shipments of RISC servers saw a small growth of 3.4% YoY in the fourth quarter of 2005, reaching 5300 units. Market value reached RMB 1.91 billion, increasing 1.2% YoY. Analysys International says RISC server market faces price and technology challenges from dual-core x86 servers.
IBM and Hewlett-Packard kept leading the server market in China, accounting for 38.6% and 23.5% respectively of the total market value. ''Complete product mix, powerful technology strength, stable customer relations, and high brand recognition are the key issues to the success of IBM and HP in the server market,'' said Li Zhixin, an analyst from Analysys International. ''Both IBM and HP occupied a high market share in government, telecom and finance industries.''
In the fourth quarter of 2005, Dell maintained a market share of 9.6%, being in the third, followed by Sun with 9.4% market share. In the fast developing SMB market, Chinese domestic brand Lenovo is gaining ground and have great market opportunities.
