Posted on: Friday, 3 March 2006, 12:00 CST

By DOUGLAS DUREN

TaRhonda Thomas, a general assignment reporter for WWBT-Channel 12, has been named the anchor and managing editor of the station's new Saturday morning newscast, which premieres Jan. 7.

Thomas is a Louisiana State University graduate who joined WWBT this year after reporting for the NBC affiliate in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sagay Galindo will serve as meteorologist for the show, which will air from 6 to 7 a.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m.; the Saturday edition of "Today" will air from 7 to 9 a.m.

In addition, WWBT is launching a weather channel on Comcast Cable. NBC-12 First Warning Weather Plus will begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 on digital channel 208.

This year, WTVR-Channel 6 launched its digital weather channel, CBS 6 Xtra, on channel 207.

WRIC-Channel 8 does not have a digital weather channel on Comcast, but it does have the sexiest weatherman, according to listeners of WRVQ (94.5 FM).

John Bernier, WRIC's longtime chief meteorologist, and Dawn Davenport, WRIC's weekend sports anchor, were this year's winners of the radio station's "Richmond's Sexiest TV Anchors" contest.
