WEGENER and Verimatrix Partner to Integrate User Specific Forensic Watermarking for IPTV

Posted on: Monday, 6 March 2006, 09:00 CST

Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced integration with Verimatrix's VideoMark(TM), its patent pending user-specific forensic watermarking technology into WEGENER's IPTV set top. VideoMark, an available feature of the Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS), is the industry's first robust and invisible content tracking solution that enables forensic, user-specific marking of individual video copies to track piracy to the individual IPTV set top.

"WEGENER's strategy is to deploy viable HD solutions for IPTV," stated Robert Placek, CEO and Chairman of Wegener Corporation. "Our partnership with Verimatrix is highly valued and welcomed by our Telco clients launching IPTV services. Verimatrix is a proven leader in the world of software-based security for IPTV."

"WEGENER understands security is a critical component to any deployment of revenue generating IPTV services," stated Ross Cooper, President of Verimatrix. "Operators of IP networks directly benefit from Verimatrix's integrated forensic watermarking as many content owners have indicated they will mandate the use of digital watermarking for high definition (HD) content. We look forward to supporting WEGENER and their customers to showcase high quality live and on-demand programming."

WEGENER's IPTV set top, SMD-515 supports MPEG-4/h.264 and MPEG-2 decoding. The IP set top fully supports both SD and HD video, optional PVR and rapid integration of 3rd party applications.

Verimatrix protects content and revenue streams, as well as detects digital piracy at its point of origin, with carrier-class solutions designed specifically for today's bi-directional IPTV networks. Digital video delivered via set-top box (STB) with invisible, user-specific watermarks creates an environment with advantages to effectively secure the content. Every STB contains an individual user identification, which is linked to that consumer via a unique digital certificate.

The integrated WEGENER and Verimatrix solution will deploy to several IPTV networks across the United States during 2006.
