MagnaChip Semiconductor Powers Mobile TV Market
SEOUL, South Korea, March 6 /PRNewswire/ — MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd., a leading global designer, developer and manufacturer of image sensor solutions, mixed-signal and digital multimedia semiconductors, today, announced it is helping customers address the rapidly growing mobile TV market. This is expected to be a significant catalyst for handset growth in 2006 and beyond.
MagnaChip offers two display driver IC solutions for Digital Mobile Broadcasting (DMB) phones or mobile TV phone applications. MagnaChip’s first generation product is a two-chip QVGA solution (IS2102 and IS2202). Additionally, MagnaChip’s second generation product (IS2320) offers a one chip QVGA solution. These products support QVGA (240RGBx320) resolution and 260,000 colors while minimizing power consumption and providing a 68/80 system MPU interface and an 18/16/6-bit RGB interface. These products are under mass production and are already used in several DMB applications (i.e., DMB phones, PDAs and Personal Media Players). Further, MagnaChip is developing a cost effective third generation product solution, which offers a chip size reduction of more than 30%.
Mr. Davis Mok, Vice President of Marketing in MagnaChip’s Display Solutions Division, commented, “Digital video in mobile devices is being driven by the increasing availability of content such as popular TV shows and other short form programs. Because this is a streaming technology and does not require a download, DMB is more flexible and is well suited for today’s non-traditional TV viewer. We are optimistic about this latest application for cell phones given positive response from handset manufacturers, carriers and consumers alike. Because of this growing market potential, we believe DMB will become the technology of choice for many of our customers. With our current and future solutions, MagnaChip is well-positioned for future growth in this area.”
