BEIJING and MURRAY HILL, N.J., March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies and Taiwan Mobile, a leading mobile operator in Taiwan, today announced the successful deployment of Lucent's Metropolis(R) Wavelength Services Manager (WSM) optical networking platform to help Taiwan Mobile ensure the reliability of its mission critical billing and customer management systems, enhancing its superior customer support capabilities. The deployment also will help Taiwan mobile prepare for the future expansion of its fiber optic network.
The project is part of an initiative by Taiwan Mobile to enhance its high- quality customer service operations, a key competitive differentiator. To meet this objective, Taiwan Mobile selected Lucent to deploy a new dense wavelength division (DWDM) optical network to provide backup support for Taiwan Mobile's existing fiber optic network, enabling the operator to prevent potential network disruption and information loss.
"The Metropolis(R) Wavelength Services Manager offers a very high capacity, very cost-effective way of supporting operators' fiber channel needs," said Maurice Liu, Chairman and General Manager of Lucent Technologies in Taiwan. "Lucent also provides extensive pre-operation planning services to provide assurance that the system can respond rapidly to maintain the smooth, seamless operation of Taiwan Mobile's network, avoiding potential customer disruption."
The Metropolis(R) Wavelength Services Manager (WSM) is a dense wavelength division (DWDM) platform for from Lucent that helps customers meet their wavelength needs in the metropolitan access, interoffice and regional application spaces. The modular and flexible architecture of the product will help Taiwan Mobile reduce cost and complexity through a common optical platform using DWDM and coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) technologies. Because it supports a variety of data transport methods, the platform helps telecommunication companies reduce capital and operational costs and helps simplify the their networks, making them easier to manage and troubleshoot.
