Diebold Receives 2006 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy Award for Its Exceptional ATM Transaction Solutions

Posted on: Tuesday, 7 March 2006, 09:01 CST

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis of the World automated teller machine (ATM) market resulted in the selection of Diebold, Incorporated as the recipient of the 2006 Award for Product Line Strategy. Diebold was chosen for its outstanding success as a global provider of unique ATM transaction solutions and value- added services. Diebold's terminals operate in various payment environments and integrate security, software and assisted-service transactions, providing a total systems solution.

Diebold's successful Opteva(R) line of ATMs is a global self-service product platform. These terminals are equipped to deliver the next generation of services to financial institutions. This family of teller machines is designed to make the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of ATM machines more easy and efficient.

Opteva models include Opteva 500 and 520, which are lobby cash dispensers for lobby and retail off-premise installations; Opteva 562, which is a reliable through-the-wall cash dispenser; and Opteva 720, 740, 750 and 760, which are advanced-function ATMs for drive-up, island or walk-up locations.

Financial institutions can enhance their level of interaction with and understanding of their customers through the customer relationship management (CRM) as well as marketing and advertising applications provided. A powerful Pentium processor powers the machines and the configuration of the terminals ensures a lower total cost of ownership.

Apart from a universal serial bus (USB) interface, all Opteva terminals run on Diebold's Agilis(R) terminal software, which interfaces with numerous multivendor products, thereby protecting investments in legacy systems.

"The Opteva line of terminals represents a key element in Diebold's Enhanced Lifecycle Strategy designed to improve the overall price performance, flexibility and efficiency of self-service networks," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst Aravindh V. "The strategy is based on a combination of robust hardware and flexible, vendor-independent software."

While Opteva is the advanced hardware platform, the Agilis software provides an open-standard, multi-vendor software platform. This provides financial institutions with greater control over their self-service assets.

In Europe, Diebold's multi-vendor strategy is becoming an important differentiator for many banks and ATM network operators in the areas of multi- vendor solutions, servicing, and outsourcing. With the acquisition of the Getronics and Groupe Bull ATM business, Diebold is now a major competitor in the EMEA region.

Diebold is a leading provider of advanced security and fraud prevention mechanisms. Some of these measures include a fraud-resistant dispenser, integrated sensors to detect fraudulent tampering, and a card reader configured with the latest jitter technology to deter skimming.

"The Opteva product family also incorporates enhanced anti-phishing features that ensure fraudsters do not trap and confiscate ATM cards," observes Aravindh. "Besides these, there are consumer awareness mirrors that allow consumers to see behind them, various lighting options, a recessed keypad, and a display area that reduces the opportunity for PIN surfing."

Diebold has constantly introduced multifunctional and full-featured ATMs that are radically different in their functionality when compared to low-end basic ATMs, which are primarily cash dispensing machines. These multi-function ATMs provide an increasingly broad and sophisticated range of capabilities such as check automation, mobile topping-up, check cashing, advertising, and postage stamp vending.

"Diebold has a huge installed base of terminals worldwide and is the leading participant in many markets around the world," notes Aravindh. "Diebold's solutions meet current and emerging market requirements and continue to add value and speed to customers at the ATM."

Each year, this Award is presented to a company that has exhibited the most insight into customer needs and product demands. The recipient company has optimized its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by the market.
