CHANDLER, Ariz., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Able Information Technologies, Inc. announced today that it tops the list of service providers chosen to provide technology services to Arizona schools under the federal government's E-rate program with over $30 million worth of projects being requested. The second most chosen provider came in $13 million under Able. Able grabbed nearly 24% of the $127 million dollars requested by Arizona schools and purchasing consortiums for projects involving internal connections and basic maintenance.
"As the most requested provider of information technology services for the 2006 E-rate funding by Arizona schools, we're both thrilled and humbled," said Brandon Ames, Able CEO. "We have a long and proud history of providing quality service to the educational community here in Arizona, but this historic amount of dollars committed to us tells us that we must be doing something right."
Hundreds of schools across the state take advantage of the E-rate program which helps schools apply for and receive funding and preferred vendor pricing for technology projects. Schools applying for the funding were required to submit their requests (Form 471) prior to February 16, 2006 indicating the type of project and approved E-rate vendor they would like to select for the project. Once that deadline closed, Able found itself at the top of the provider list with over $30 million worth of projects submitted for the funding year 2006, which will be implemented over the next two years.
What is E-rate?
The Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, commonly known as "E-rate," is administered under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and provides discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access. The types of technology projects funded by E-rate typically include telecommunications services, Internet access, internal connections, and basic maintenance of internal connections. Eligible schools, school districts and libraries may apply individually or as part of a consortium.
