Signal Mountain Networks Supplies Geo-Link With DIRECWAY Broadband Satellite Service

Posted on: Wednesday, 7 January 2004, 06:00 CST

ATLANTA, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Signal Mountain Networks, Inc., an authorized value-added reseller of Hughes Network Systems' DIRECWAY(R) broadband satellite solutions, today announced it has won a three-year contract with Geo-Link, a mudlogging and geological consulting company in the oil and gas industry. Under terms of the agreement, Signal Mountain will supply Geo-Link with a customized configuration of MotoSAT's mobile satellite systems, which operates with HNS' DIRECWAY DW4020 satellite terminal.

The DW4020 satellite terminal boasts a four-port 10/100 base T Ethernet hub and incorporates a fast, self-hosted processor, eliminating the need for a dedicated host PC. It operates independently of networked computers, yielding overall greater network reliability and robustness.

During Phase 1, Signal Mountain will install the MotoSAT/DW4020 mobile solution on four of Geo-Link's Data-Support Trailers. Geo-Link uses special drilling instrumentation and software from Mudlogging Systems, Inc., which will run over the satellite system. With DIRECWAY, Geo-Link is equipped with real-time delivery of sensitive information related to deposits of oil and other natural resources. This data provides information necessary to make informed decisions about how to proceed with well drilling that is underway.

In addition, Signal Mountain created a custom Ethernet solution for Geo- Link, which will allow Geo-Link to easily provide access for additional users to plug in laptops to a mini-hub in these on-site work trailers for access to drilling data, their company's corporate Web site and high-speed, always-on, secure Internet connectivity.

"Our customized MotoSAT/DW4020 solution takes mobile connectivity to a new level of cost-effective performance," remarked Ned Dobner, vice president, sales and marketing for Signal Mountain.

"Deploying a mobile broadband satellite solution, coupled with the power of the DIRECWAY's always-on, high-speed broadband solution will help us provide better data more reliably, without limitations on time or data volume," said Rob Adams, president of Geo-Link. "This ability increases the benefit we provide our customers, as well as improves our bottom line with the significant cost savings provided by the Signal Mountain solution."
