Intellon Shows Strong Powerline Market Lead at CeBIT 2006

Intellon Corporation, the global leader in standards-based powerline communications integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment and broadband over powerline (BPL) applications, announced today that it has achieved key milestones in the global deployment of its family of HomePlug-compliant ICs. Intellon's market leadership in powerline communications will be on display at CeBIT 2006, with more than a dozen manufacturers showing products based on Intellon's award-winning HomePlug ICs.
Intellon has now shipped over 4.5 million HomePlug-compliant ICs that are deployed on six continents, including almost two million ICs in use in Europe. Intellon's total powerline communications IC shipments now exceed 9.5 million units.
Following extensive field trials and competition with other powerline communications technologies, more than 20 service providers worldwide are now using Intellon's HomePlug-compliant ICs to increase customer satisfaction and self-installs and reduce the time, cost and disruption of home networking and video entertainment installations. Intellon's HomePlug ICs are being deployed in volume by cable operators, telecom carriers and satellite and Wi-Max providers in Asia, Europe and North America.
Telecom carriers around the world, including France Telecom, Neuf Cegetel, Telecom Italia France and PCCW, are currently deploying Intellon-based solutions for their IPTV services. Other service providers, such as Clearwire, Comcast, Cox, Malaysia Telecom, Mediacom, Telenet and Time Warner Cable, are using Intellon's HomePlug ICs to speed the installation of data networks and extend broadband Internet service throughout the entire home. Service providers and their customers create instant networking by simply plugging a pair of Intellon HomePlug powerline adapters into convenient home electrical outlets, eliminating the need to install new wiring or wireless repeaters.
"Intellon's sales of HomePlug-compliant ICs are experiencing accelerating growth across the globe, confirming our worldwide leadership in powerline communications technology, IC sales, service provider deployments and product enablement," said Charlie Harris, chairman and CEO of Intellon. "We are particularly proud of our market leadership and service provider enablement in Europe. The evidence of this is clear here at CeBIT 2006 as booths across the exhibit floors display a wide array of products based on Intellon's HomePlug 1.0, HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo and new 200-Mbps HomePlug AV ICs."
"Service providers and retailers really appreciate the advantages that Intellon's standards-based ICs bring to the marketplace," said Bill Casby, vice president of sales at Intellon. "They like the fact that HomePlug is a true global standard, based on a competitive selection process, with multiple technology contributors and silicon providers, an objective compliance and interoperability testing process and a complete ecosystem backed by leading home networking, personal computer and consumer electronics companies and service providers."
Some of the manufacturers showcasing Intellon-based products at CeBIT 2006 include: Aceex, Asoka, Asustek, Atech, Aztech, BeWAN, devolo, D-Link, Elcon, Gigafast, LEA, NETGEAR, Niroda, Oxance, Sagem, Solwise, ST&T, Xavi, and Zyxel.
Other manufacturers of products using Intellon HomePlug-compliant ICs include Actiontec, Belkin, Current, dq Technology, EchoStar, Linksys, Motorola, Sling Media, SMC Networks, Telkonet, TII, and Wilife.
As the market for home networking turns from data and Internet sharing to the guaranteed delivery of multimedia content, many of Intellon's customers are developing Ethernet adapters and embedded products using Intellon's new 200-Mbps HomePlug AV IC. Products being released this year include ADSL2+ gateways, WiFi access points, IP set-top boxes and networked entertainment and consumer electronics devices. Several manufacturers will demonstrate the first HomePlug AV Ethernet adapters at CeBIT 2006.
Visitors to Intellon's booth at CeBIT, Hall 14, Stand H13, will see Intellon's widely-anticipated 200-Mbps HomePlug AV IC in action as it streams high-definition video content over the powerline. Intellon is also demonstrating its 14-Mbps HomePlug 1.0 and 85-Mbps HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo solutions and showcasing a multitude of end products from its customers.
