Altiris Offers More System Remediation for Efficient IT Service

Altiris Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of service-oriented management software, today announced new system service and remediation capabilities to help companies secure and automate IT operations. These Altiris solutions provide customers with the ability to automate service processes, manage remote systems regardless of power or OS state through Intel Active Management Technology (AMT), and deliver efficient system backup and recovery.
With these latest product releases, Altiris continues to deliver on its strategy to provide service-oriented management solutions to help efficiently optimize and secure IT systems.
Baystate Health is one of New England's largest health care systems and an Altiris customer. Dale Burns, Baystate Health help desk supervisor, said, "Besides allowing us to significantly reduce service-related travel costs, we estimate Altiris service-oriented management solutions will allow us to resolve 65 percent or more of all software issues on the first call, versus 20 to 30 percent before, without having to visit the computer or escalate the issue to another level."
An updated Altiris architecture provides native integration between service desk and remediation tools while leveraging existing IT investments and the latest technologies. Altiris customers now receive more intuitive security configuration of the Web-based management console, easier infrastructure management with automatic package replication and simplified agent deployment including enhanced support of Active Directory. In addition, the Altiris architecture now supports Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 x64, and SQL Server 2005 to take advantage of the industry's latest server-based speed, scalability, security and reliability.
Integral to the updated architecture, Altiris(R) Real-Time System Manager Solution(TM) is a new offering that provides agentless, first-line hardware and software diagnosis and remediation. Resource tasks are easily accessible with a right mouse click, including:
-- Trace route and port check
-- Password reset and system reboot
-- Intel AMT-enabled capabilities including out of band hardware inventory and power management
Integrated support of Intel AMT enables many service tasks to be available as needed, despite the state of the operating system. Intel AMT provides management capabilities built into the hardware, eliminating OS requirements in case the system is off, locked or not working properly. Circuit Breaker, a key component of the next generation of Intel AMT features, will be supported via the Altiris management console and will provide IT organizations with the ability to better protect a platform, at the chip level, from malicious, network-based attacks.
Providing protection of business-critical operations and data, Altiris Recovery Solution(TM) now provides integrated collection-based rollback of faulty patches and software packages for error-free data and system state protection. Additional new features help reduce service desk costs by optimizing snapshots across wide area networks, facilitating user self-service, and offering bare-metal system restoration from a USB hard drive.
Altiris Helpdesk Solution(TM), recently named a leader in the Forrester Wave for small enterprise service desk management, has been updated to set the stage for extensible service desk control by providing administrators the ability to customize workflow process automation. This new feature works in tandem with Helpdesk Solution validation, incident, routing and notify rule types. Helpdesk Solution Smart Tasks tie Altiris configuration and service management capabilities together by natively integrating inventory and remediation capabilities within the service request.
