SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SRS Labs, Inc. , a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, today announced that Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and a recognized leader in portable computers, PDAs and projectors, has licensed SRS WOW(TM) and SRS TruSurround XT(R) audio enhancement technologies for Toshiba's 2004 Satellite(R) notebook product line. WOW and TruSurround XT are patented, advanced audio algorithms that transform the two-speaker audio of a laptop into a home theater listening experience. This new agreement broadens the current licensing relationship between Toshiba and SRS Labs from plasma and LCD TVs to notebooks and other digital media products.
The first products to ship with SRS technologies are Toshiba's newly announced Satellite A45 Series of notebooks that feature TruSurround XT for virtual surround sound for DVD and CD playback. With TruSurround XT, users will enjoy a surround sound movie experience that wraps around them with deep rich bass and clear dialog over speakers or headphones. In later models containing WOW, CD and other stereo or mono material will come alive with powerfully enhanced 3D audio specifically calibrated to the speaker driver requirements of the computer. For Toshiba's Satellite mobile computer product line, WOW provides a panoramic 3D audio image that extends the sound in the horizontal and vertical planes well beyond the speakers or headphones themselves. By the summer of 2004, both technologies will be available in Toshiba's Satellite notebooks in the U.S.
"Toshiba's Satellite notebooks are designed to provide the perfect combination of productivity tools and multimedia capabilities for work or play," said Carl Pinto, director of product marketing at Toshiba's DPD. "As laptops are increasingly used for entertainment, including watching DVD movies, our customers are demanding a state-of-the-art listening experience that rivals their home setup, and SRS audio delivers this experience."
"This engineering and marketing alliance with Toshiba confirms our strong commitment to working with them and each of our OEM partners to deliver flexible, tunable and customized audio enhancement solutions for each product considering speaker placement, form factor and target applications," said Joanna Skrdlant, director of product marketing at SRS Labs. "More and more, manufacturers are including state-of-the-art audio enhancement as a vital ingredient to their product's success, and SRS is the clear brand leader in consumer electronics audio enhancement."
