StarNet Announces X Windows Application Display Utility for Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 3.5

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- StarNet Communications Corp., a leading publisher of Windows-to-UNIX/Linux connectivity software, announced Desktop-X 2.0, a new low-cost X Windows application display utility for Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 3.5. StarNet also announced an exclusive distribution agreement with Interop Systems Inc. of Woodinville, WA to market Desktop-X for large deployments in the government and commercial sectors.
Desktop-X 2.0 provides the graphical user interface to display X Windows applications ported under the Interix subsystem technology, which is included in Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5. Desktop-X was designed for computers running SFU 3.5. Its simple structure makes it an ideal utility to display ported UNIX applications, including 3-D OpenGL-based software. Desktop-X automatically boots when the X application is started on the Windows computer. "Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 provides the means for customers to easily interoperate between platforms and extend their legacy UNIX applications to the Microsoft Windows platform," said Dennis Oldroyd, director, Windows Server Group, Microsoft Corp. "We welcome the addition of Desktop-X as a low cost means of running legacy X Windows UNIX applications rehosted on Windows Server 2003."
Under an exclusive distribution agreement, Desktop-X will be available through Interop Systems (http://www.interopsystems.com/) which markets an extensive line of development tools and add-ons for Services for UNIX. Pricing starts at $99 per user with volume discounts available for commercial and government customers.
