Stratex Networks Introduces First Scalable, Nodal Wireless Transmission System

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Stratex Networks, Inc. , one of the world's leading providers of wireless transmission solutions, today announced the availability of the Eclipse(TM) wireless network transmission system. Eclipse delivers a new and innovative architecture to meet customer demand for increased functionality while reducing overall network costs. Only the Eclipse system combines a unique set of breakthrough features in one platform to serve backhaul and access applications that until now were provided by point-to-point microwave radios. Commercial shipments of Eclipse equipment have commenced.
Node-Based Architecture
The Eclipse wireless network transmission system enables powerful wireless network node configurations in the smallest form factor available, supporting up to six independent radio traffic paths from a compact and highly modular Intelligent Node Unit (INU). An integral high speed TDM bus architecture enables traffic routing between traffic paths by software, without local cabling. Eclipse nodes enable a dramatic reduction in the amount of equipment required to build a network, leading to cost savings, faster installation and higher network reliability.
New Speeds/Ease of Upgrading
Available in frequency bands from 5 to 38 GHz, the Eclipse wireless network transmission system also introduces SuperPDH(TM) networking, a pioneering innovation that provides scaleable capacity with selectable modulation, incrementally from 4x E1/T1 up to 64x E1 or 84xT1, all under software control. Eclipse also supports Nx10/100baseT Ethernet transport with scaleable bandwidth assignment, Nx E3/DS3 and STM-1/OC-3 capacities either as initially installed or upgradeable later. SuperPDH networking allows operators to deploy low- to high-speed PDH networks with built-in self-healing ring switching and circuit management capability, without having to introduce SDH/SONET solely to increase network capacity. Operators can now reduce network cost and complexity by avoiding the need to deploy costly multiplexers and synchronization technologies. With Eclipse, operators will now be able to quickly adapt to changing conditions and save on future network upgrade costs, all with minimal network disruption.
"Eclipse is a wireless transmission system that changes the way our customers plan, deploy and operate their networks, leading to dramatic reductions in their initial and ongoing costs," according to Chuck Kissner, Chairman and CEO of Stratex Networks, Inc. "With Eclipse, we have combined the capabilities of several of our current products and that of other suppliers to provide unprecedented functionality in a single platform."
"In addition, by switching to Eclipse, customers pay only for the functions and capacity they require today and receive a smooth upgrade path to accommodate future growth," noted Kissner. "Our customers now have the solution that enables them to save on today's capital investments, while also saving on tomorrow's ongoing operational costs."
"Liquid Bandwidth"
A new feature called LiquidBandwidth(TM), allows the simultaneous transmission of 10/100baseT Ethernet together with NxE1/DS1 TDM traffic, with scalable capacity. This unique solution incorporates quality of service controls, creating the most flexible solution yet for the high-speed transport of enterprise data applications, backhaul of IEEE 802.xx base stations, and support for next-generation mobile network migration to all-IP infrastructure.
Breakthrough Reliability and Support Savings
High reliability, fewer network components, and increased platform commonality enable operators to significantly reduce the cost of sparing. The Eclipse wireless network transmission system also includes powerful new web- based deployment, operation and maintenance tools for both the technician and operations center controller. These tools were developed through extensive collaboration with customers with the objective of accelerating deployments and improving network performance.
