Taiwan railway chief resigns because of train accident
HONG KONG, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Five railway maintenance workers were killed by an express train in the small hours in Hualien of Taiwan on Friday and the Taiwan railway chief has asked resignation for the deadly accident, according to reports reaching here from Taipei.
Hsu Da-wen, managing director of "Taiwan Railway Administration ", who had planned to retire in July, expressed sorrow and regret for the accident. Her resign request has been granted.
Hsu had visited the families of the five victims in Hualien in the morning.
According to a local labor committee, the administration has reported 17 major accidents in the past five years, leaving 19 staff members dead. And 13 of them were attributed to improper management.
The accident is still under investigation.
