The Radicati Group, Inc. Releases "Market Numbers Quarterly Update, Q1 2004"

A new study showing market share figures and four-year forecasts for all core market segments tracked by the Radicati Group, Inc. is now available.

The study covers the following markets: Messaging Software, Email Archiving, Anti-Spam, Instant Messaging, Outsourced Messaging, Identity Management, Unified Messaging, Directory Services, Wireless Email, and more.

According to the study, there are currently about 564 million email users worldwide, each one with an average of 1.6 active email accounts.

Microsoft Exchange continues to be the top messaging server product in the corporate messaging space, followed closely by IBM's Lotus Domino product. MS Outlook, Microsoft's messaging client product is also a market leader in the corporate world, well ahead of Lotus Notes and Eudora.

On the Messaging Software for Service Providers side of the market, Sun Microsystems leads the way, with a sizable lead over Critical Path and Openwave.

According to the study, the hosted email market is picking up momentum behind renewed interest in outsourced services. It is expected to grow from $2.3 billion at the end of 2003, to $3.1 billion in 2007.

Anti-spam technology is another hot market. According to the study, revenue for anti-spam solutions will grow at an average annual rate of 38% over the next four years, reaching $2.3 billion in 2007.

The wireless email market is currently led by RIM, with Extended Systems, Visto and Synchrologic all following closely.
