LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- At International CES 2004, Texas Instruments (TI) today announced new technology enhancements and offerings aimed at increasing the quality and affordability of DLP(TM) front projection products for the rapidly growing consumer mass market. New 16:9 formats of 480p and 576p resolution DLP chips offer affordable options for enjoying an incredible big screen viewing experience at home. In addition, DLP technology enhancements in image processing, the DDP2000 ASIC, are optimizing video reproduction capabilities in traditional data projectors, furthering the performance of products traditionally used in the business projection markets.
Showing explosive growth, Pacific Media Associates (PMA) forecasts that the home entertainment projector market will jump from 187,000 units in 2003 to 444,000 units in 2004. TI's new chips are targeted at offering a high- quality, cost-effective solution for the industry's 16:9 standard for DVDs and HDTV. BenQ, InFocus, Mitsubishi, Optoma and Toshiba will all be demonstrating projectors at CES featuring the new chips.
"We have seen incredible growth in the front projector market for the home, which can be attributed to people's desire to emulate the theatre experience in their home, and the recent affordable options that allow this," said Bharath Rajagopalan, business development manager at TI's DLP Products Division.
"DLP technology is already providing the ultimate viewing experience in digital cinema, professional venue, high-end home theaters, and digital television and now, with the release of our 16:9 DLP chips, we intend to bring this experience to the mainstream consumer's living room."
Also showing at CES is the DDP2000 ASIC, which allows DLP customers to offer compact products, improved video quality at lower costs, and greater video quality reproduction from multiple sources (DVD, NTSC). InFocus will be demonstrating its new Screenplay(TM) 4805 projector with DDP2000 technology at CES. Additionally, this new image processor chip is available in leading cross-over projection products, utilized for both business and home, including the Plus U5 series and the Dell MP2200.
A wide range of products utilizing DLP technology, including large screen TVs and projectors, can be seen at the Texas Instruments booth (# 9004/ LVCC CEN) on the CES show floor.
