AT&T Completes Work at Shell New Orleans Office
Posted on: Tuesday, 14 March 2006, 09:00 CST
Before Hurricane Katrina, Shell Exploration & Production Company (SEPCo) contracted with AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T) to provide upgrades to the Shell IT system between New Orleans and Houston. With the return of Shell and its 1,000 employees to their New Orleans offices, the completion of the work is timely. The five-year contract expands and extends a long-standing relationship between the two companies.
Moving quickly to meet the original project timetable and coincide with the return of SEPCo's temporarily displaced staff to New Orleans, AT&T implemented a custom-managed high-availability solution that provides a private high speed fiber-optic network and the latest optical switching technology. With unparalleled security and high speed connectivity, this gives Shell the capability to transmit in just one second all the data typically found on a PC.
Many organizations are implementing business-continuity strategies in the wake of 2005's Gulf Coast hurricanes. Even so, a recent survey by AT&T and the International Association of Emergency Managers found that nearly a third of companies in the U.S. have not developed, implemented or tested a disaster-contingency plan.
