¶ Editorial Summary
¶ -- AMI will demonstrate its MegaRAC(TM) K1 zero-U, digital KVM
over IP solution ¶ -- AMI's platform management firmware is IPMI 2.0 compliant ¶ -- AMI will present on "OEM firmware development using the Intel
Platform Innovation Framework for EFI," (Wed., Feb. 18, 2004,
Room 2010) and will preview these tools at its booth
¶ American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) will demonstrate its "KVM industry first" zero-U, digital KVM over IP and platform management solution based on the IPMI 2.0 specification at IDF. IDF takes place February 17-19 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. ¶"IDF is the ideal platform for AMI to demonstrate its MegaRAC remote server management technologies--including IPMI firmware, PCI cards and KVM solutions--to server solution companies," said Michael Patellis, AMI's national sales manager. "From BIOS to storage and motherboards to KVM switches, AMI is committed to developing high-quality products and working with the leaders in the industry to create complete solutions."¶ AMI's MegaRAC K1 zero-U, digital KVM over IP solution and MegaRAC Platform Manager (PM) technology based on the IPMI 2.0 specification are key components in an ultimate server solution, Patellis added. Whether they benefit customers by IP-enabling analog KVM switches or adding high availability features to server motherboards, these new products allow AMI to continue to provide interoperability among leading-edge technologies in the computing industry. ¶ Ideal for a variety of customers, including OEMs, ODMs, the channel and IT managers, the MegaRAC K1 and the MegaRAC PM based on IPMI 2.0 enable servers with remote manageability:
¶ -- OEMs can integrate the tiny MegaRAC K1 KVM (83 mm x 80 mm x 26
mm) into an existing analog switch to create a KVM over IP
solution and system integrators can offer customers a
cost-effective value add that will allow them to remotely
control and manage their servers and complex networks.
¶ -- The IPMI subsystem, MegaRAC PM, gives interoperability and
remote manageability to servers, which can be accessed under
all system phases: power-down, pre-boot, OS load and run-time.
¶ MegaRAC K1 for instant, non-intrusive remote management
¶ With several patent-pending innovations, AMI's compact and easy-to-use MegaRAC K1 is an instant, space-saving and non-intrusive fully enclosed KVM in an extender-sized package that does not require any additional hardware to function. The MegaRAC K1's single-port KVM management solution enables administrators to manage any server from anywhere in the world and gain control of the server at any time, even at the BIOS level. MegaRAC K1 is available in two versions: MSRP is $799 for the VGA version and is $699 for the DVI version.
¶ MegaRAC PM adds high availability to server motherboards
¶ The MegaRAC PM complete, highly integrated management solution is based on easily portable management firmware that implement the IPMI 2.0 standard developed by Intel, HP, NEC and Dell. Current MegaRAC PM firmware support is available for the National Semiconductor PC87435 (Skipper) and the Hitachi H8S/2168 (H8) baseboard management controllers (BMC). Future firmware will support the National Semiconductor PC87436 (Skipper II). MegaRAC PM is an affordable answer to the high-availability needs of server and server blades, that in today's 24/7 environment must provide continuous service in order to minimize downtime for mission-critical applications.
¶ The BIOS leader develops tools for the EFI environment
¶ In addition to these product demonstrations, AMI will preview development tools designed for the Intel(R) Platform Innovation Framework for EFI. Created by Intel, the EFI Specification defines a new model for the OS-firmware interface. AMI, which worked with Intel during the development of the EFI specification, has developed additional tools for the EFI environment--including a number of EFI compliant pre-boot applications--to greatly benefit customers.
