XO Communications Expands Ethernet Service Footprint Nationwide With Hatteras Networks

Posted on: Monday, 20 March 2006, 12:00 CST

Hatteras Networks, the Mid-Band Ethernet service specialists, today announced that XO Communications is using their HN4000 and HN400 networking platforms to deliver a rich portfolio of Ethernet services nationwide. Now available in more than 60 metropolitan markets, XO Ethernet Services are enabling businesses at copper-fed locations to take advantage of the types of services previously reserved for buildings connected by fiber. Now all businesses have the flexibility to connect multiple locations or receive high-speed, IP-ready network access at all locations, bridging the bandwidth and services gap with a true carrier class Ethernet service offering.

"Hatteras Networks solutions are enabling XO to extend our Metro Ethernet service offerings to the very large and very exciting Mid-Band Ethernet services market segment," said Charlie Cary, vice president of product management and marketing communications at XO Communications. "Businesses with widely dispersed locations can now seamlessly integrate locations service with copper or fiber facilities into a single Ethernet service network for dedicated Internet Access, frame relay and other value added IP services."

XO Ethernet Services were created to meet the growing bandwidth and service quality needs of enterprise networks, storage area network providers, application and Internet service providers. Designed to deliver ample bandwidth over copper and fiber and to scale to meet future requirements, XO Ethernet Services are fully capable of delivering the Service Level Agreements required to support a layered set of voice and data services.

"XO is targeting the sweet spot for very high-speed robust services with a broad portfolio of business-grade Ethernet services," said Kevin Sheehan, president and CEO of Hatteras Networks. "By deploying Hatteras Networks platforms, XO is able to rapidly expand services in existing markets while aggressively entering new markets."

Hatteras Networks will demonstrate how its solutions can help carriers like XO extend the Ethernet service edge with Mid-Band Ethernet services at the Comptel Plus Spring 2006 Convention and Expo (booth #1108).
