Mar. 20--The state government could begin retail sales of surplus equipment such as office furniture, under a bill that passed the Georgia House of Representatives today.
The House voted to approve a Senate Bill 592, which allows the state department of administrative services to add fixed-price sales to the way it disposes of surplus property. The items, mostly furniture, would be sold at the state's warehouses in Americus, Swainsboro and Tucker.
Currently, all surplus property is auctioned off. Since last December, some of those auctions are on Internet sites such as eBay. The bill was amended slightly by the House, so it goes back to the Senate.
