Special District Elections Set May 2

Mar. 22--Special districts - including Pueblo West and Colorado City metropolitan districts and several water, sanitation and fire districts - will hold their elections May 2.

Colorado City will have two new directors on its five-member board, because the two men whose terms are expiring, Paul Shreve and Larry Sanford, are not running for re-election. Sanford's wife, Mary K. Sanford, is running, as are Gary Leal and William Dye.

Mrs. Sanford said her husband's business demands too much of his time for him to run again, but she hopes to continue "some great strides the current board has made for the community." She is a lead clinical dietitian at Parkview Medical Center.

Pueblo West also will have at least two new directors. Margaret Eichmann is term-limited and Rene Campbell, currently the board's chairwoman, is not running for a second term. Incumbent member John Van Auken is running for another term, and other candidates are Frank Gerstenkorn, David Nenno, James A. Maggard, Jeff M. Sloan, Kathleen Burnett, Stanley Edward Hren, Steven L. Abel, Howard S. Caraway II, James Prioreschi and Randy Hartman. The top three vote-getters will be elected to the three open seats on the five-member board.

Several other water, sanitation and fire districts also will hold elections May 2. The Pueblo Rural Fire District also has a tax question and a bond issue question on the ballot. The tax question is to offset some of the unfunded liability for old-hire pensions, and the $820,000 bond issue is to purchase firefighting equipment, according to Chief Robert Guagliardo.

Two incumbents on the Rural Fire board, Raymond Fearheiley and Joe Andenucio, are running for re-election along with two other candidates, John A. Cesar and George Mraovich.
